Artist Statement
KATHY HARRISON MAHN
Artist StatementI am a painter who envisions subjects as they exist in light, shadow and space. The human figure is the major element in most of my work. I gain insight and energy by drawing a live model on a weekly basis. My goal is to translate the unique beauty of everyday life through gesture and composition. My portfolio also includes paintings of still-life, animals, and gardens.Since a painter interprets form on a two dimensional surface, the painting is always an abstract rendering based on an understanding of value, color, edges and surface quality. If I can achieve a balance of skill and vision, the work is fulfilling. If my painting can initiate a sympathetic vibration in a viewer... even better!BioI am a native Idahoan. I received a BA in Fine Art from the University of Idaho which prepared me to live a design-oriented life. I have used that education as a teacher, business owner, retail space designer, problem solver and artist.Best Accomplishment: After attending a workshop with Julia Cameron on “the Artist’s Way”, I started a study group based on Julia’s format. Four years later, our group is going strong. The support we give each other makes a huge difference in our lives.Affiliations:
